Happy New Year. With the turn of the calendar year come new beginnings of all kinds; resolutions to be better physically, professionally and personally. Ophthalmic Professional has had some changes of its own.
Although the printed issues of OP have been reduced to a quarterly publication, our online presence has been enhanced. Earlier this year, you may have noticed our website had a brand new look with a more engaging and improved, interactive digital platform. We hope you have enjoyed perusing our enhanced website and have found it to be even more informative and seamless to navigate.
Looking forward
We thank each of you that have taken the time to respond to our annual salary survey. After thoughtful consideration, we have decided to reduce the frequency of the survey to every 3 to 5 years. We hope you will continue to complete it and urge your coworkers to do the same.
In addition, Judy Williams and I have been co-editors of OP for the past few years. After many years of hard work leading BSM Consulting (now VMG Health), she has decided to retire and resigned her role at OP. As of this issue, I am excited to take on the role of Editor-in-Chief. Your input and suggestions have always been considered and I hope you will continue to share them with me.
Advances in glaucoma
January is also National Glaucoma Awareness Month. You can help raise awareness by encouraging your friends and family members, and those of your patients, to have a dilated eye exam. There have been many advances in the treatment of this disease, some of which are highlighted in this issue.
This month’s cover story profiles Advanced Vision Care in Los Angeles, and how the practice embraces even the most difficult of glaucoma cases.
Additionally, Amy Swanoski, BS, COA, discusses minimally invasive glaucoma surgery (MIGS) devices; Drs. Saif Aldeen Alryalat and Leonard K. Seibold highlight the latest in glaucoma diagnostics; Drs. Anthony P. Mai and Tanner J. Ferguson look at the new pharmacological options that are available or are undergoing clinical trials; and Lynn Girdlestone, COA, OSA, OSC, explores the connection between glaucoma medications and ocular surface health.
Be sure to check out these articles and more in our January issue. All of us at OP wish you a very happy and healthy New Year. OP
