One of the challenges we face working in ophthalmology is that our world is constantly changing. Whether it is the advent of new technology or the introduction of new regulations, it seems that nearly every day we need to adapt to a new set of rules, policies, or procedures.
Early in my career, I was fortunate to learn that every challenge usually includes an opportunity for learning and discovery. All it takes is the right attitude and access to the right information.
Knowledge is power
It has long been a goal of mine to learn something new every day. I actively seek to be better informed about my family, my business, and my profession, because I believe it makes me more effective in all aspects of my life.
For this reason, I am an active consumer of news and information. I want to understand how the latest developments will impact me, my company, and my clients. This knowledge allows me to assess situations and make important decisions that have the most likelihood of being right and succeeding.
As the leader of an ophthalmic-focused consulting firm, my decisions impact others — those in my chosen profession, my staff, and our clients. Only when armed with the latest available information can I make sense of this dynamic, ever-changing world. Knowledge provides me proper perspective.
Today’s lesson
So, what am I going to do today to better educate myself and bring additional value to those around me? Read the latest issue of Ophthalmic Professional. Here is what I am going to learn about today — and what you can, too:
• More about Sacramento Eye Consultants, a practice that prides itself on cutting-edge glaucoma care and excellent patient service.
• Commonly used modalities for corneal diagnostic testing, as part of our extensive series from Bascom Palmer Eye Institute.
• Challenges in IOP measuring for the management of glaucoma, including an overview of available tonometer options.
• Best practices for hiring candidates who will contribute to long-term success in your practice.
• Insights into the Merit-based Incentive Pay System (MIPS), which went into effect on Jan. 1.
We can all afford to learn from this lineup of knowledge. OP
