A sense of loyalty
Bruce Maller, Co-Editor
I am a loyal person. I enjoy totally embracing all the wonderful people in my life. While “things” happen that impact relationships, my loyalty rarely wavers when I truly know a person well.
Naturally, I was delighted to preview the feature article in this issue of Ophthalmic Professional. The article highlights the great staff at Shepherd Eye Center in Las Vegas, a group of individuals I have been fortunate to know — and embrace — for many years. They have built a tremendously loyal team, one that has never had a single layoff. While I cannot make that claim at BSM Consulting (we’re darn close though), I am truly proud of the team we have put together over the past 35-plus years.
The characteristics of a loyal team
It got me thinking about what makes the individuals at BSM Consulting so loyal — and me so loyal to them. Here are a few of these characteristics:
Strong work ethic. We are a group of self-motivated, passionate, and dedicated individuals who want to get the job done right, no matter what it takes.
Sense of team. We clearly understand that today’s economically mandated do-more-with-less philosophy requires that we help and support one another.
Effective interpersonal skills. We try to connect with each other. Developing the social skills necessary to become closer to coworkers is essential to our overall happiness and productivity.
Desire to learn. We embrace continuing education. The best employees want to be better, to know more, and to be able to pitch in when needed.
Sense of commitment. On the outside, our sense of commitment makes us dependable, have good attendance records, and report to work on time. On the inside, we all have well-established sets of meaningful personal values, principles, and beliefs that we bring to work every day.
Positive attitude. From experience, we know that positive people are contagious — in a good way. We like coworkers who energize the office by seeing “the bright side” and having a “glass half full” mentality.
Confidence. We promote confidence-building growth, knowing that team members with good self-esteem believe in themselves, welcome challenges, and find it easy to embrace objectives and goals. They also tend to mix well with other employees and are quick learners.
BSM Consulting is fortunate to enjoy a mutually-beneficial blend of individual characteristics that results in a strong, loyal bond between team members. I hope your practice is built on a similar foundation of loyalty. OP
