■ Iridex’s TxCell Scanning Laser Delivery System allows users to deliver lasers in a multi-spot scanning mode, a more efficient method than the traditional singlespot mode, the company says. The system, when combined with an Iridex IQ 532 or IQ 577 laser enabled with MicroPulse, provides users with three laser modalities: multi-spot scanning, single-spot standard and MicroPulse therapy. All are designed to save time in a variety of laser photocoagulation procedures.

TearScience LipiView V. 2.0

■ The FDA has cleared TearScience’s Lipiview version 2.0 software for the ability to measure the absolute thickness of the tear film lipid layer in nanometers. The idea is to assist in dry eye treatment by identifying a common cause of dry eye symptoms: lipid layer deficiencies. The upgraded software will also acquire a patient’s blinking process to help identify partial blinkers.

■ Near-vision testing is now offered as a function of the Smart System product line from M&S Technologies. The company says the app is a convenient way to perform near-vision tests at health fairs and nursing homes and other situations which call for portability. The technology replaces the manual projector and comes with fully randomizable Sloan letters and Lea symbols in a portable, high-tech package. Operators can toggle from 16-inch to 10-foot distances.
